The word Technology has its origin with the Greek word techne.  Technology is the tools and craft of science and the application of scientific knowledge to achieve the aims of humans in changing and manipulating the environment.  Over the last couple of centuries, the use and development of technology has accelerated and is being applied widely. During the late 18th century a revolt by textile workers, led by Ned Ludd occurred. These workers, known as Luddites feared that they would lose their jobs to automation.  Today technology is having an even greater impact on society as more tasks are capable of being automated. Some key technology areas include Artificial Intelligence, Communications, Environment, Information Systems, Bio Medical, Robotics, Space and Transportation.
