Science is about knowing; engineering is about doing” ⇒ Henry Petroski

Engineering is the science of applying scientific knowledge to achieve the objectives of humans in changing and manipulating the environment.  Engineering could be said to date back to the stone age when human ancestors first made tools such as axes, chisels, plows, the wheel, dugout canoes and fire.  Great feats of construction such as the Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China demonstrate early engineering at its best. Modern engineering began with the industrial revolution in the late 18th century. Today engineering has evolved into highly specialized disciplines in the life and medical sciences as well as the physical sciences.  Engineering is organized into many branches, including Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Robotic to name only a few, with each of these have numerous sub specialties.
